Coffee, Cards and a Tribute to the Ace Brigade

Coffee, Cards and a Tribute to the Ace Brigade

June 20, 2018

The life of a firefighter can be thrilling, adrenaline filled and occasionally dangerous.

But between calls? There can be some time to kill.

In those quiet hours, the Ace Brigade was born.

Give a bunch of firefighters and EMTs a steaming pot of coffee and a deck of cards, and those hours of waiting can disappear in no time.

Our newest mug, each one hand-spun by our friends at Grey Fox Pottery, is a tribute to our lifesaving, card-playing brothers and sisters — all members of the Ace Brigade.

The game doesn’t much matter. Poker or Gin Rummy. War or even Go Fish. Games of skill or games of luck. As long as there are four aces and 52 cards, the Ace Brigade competition is fast and furious.

Coffee is essential too.

You’ve got to be alert and stay alert because you never know when the next call is coming. You never know when you’ll have to rush out the door to fight a fire, rescue accident victims, or face down some scenario you never even imagined.

Sometimes, the Ace Brigade gets together and the call never comes. We don’t mind at all, because the best coffee always leads to the best trash talk, and we love that too.

At Fire Dept. Coffee, we find plenty of ways to keep ourselves busy, while the Ace Brigade may be our favorite way of passing the time, coming up with new high-quality coffee blends and new products is a close second. There’s nothing better than when we finally get the flavor profile just right on a new coffee blend. The moment is simply magical.

The reason we get so excited about our coffee is because we know how essential it is to help you stay alert and focused on the task at hand. Sure, we could supply you with a simple cup of coffee that gives you the bust of caffeine that you need, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we get to unveil bold and exotic flavors that not only deliver the much-needed caffeine, but they also make drinking your cup of coffee an experience.

This same concept applies when the Ace Brigade pulls up a chair and gets ready to play. The object of the game isn’t to play cards, it’s to spend time with friends and people that we care about. We also take the opportunity to trash talk our buddies because we know they can take it.

With our new Ace Brigade mug, you can take the Ace Brigade with you wherever you go. Whether you’re drinking coffee at the firehouse over a deck of cards, you’re at home reading the paper, or you’re quickly getting some coffee before a big meeting, our mug combines camaraderie and leisure all in one cup. Add some high-quality Fire Dept. Coffee to your mug and you have an experience unlike any other.

Shop our new Ace Brigade mug and don’t forget to stock up on quality coffee. Know that your whole team is going to want a sip? Don’t wait until all of your coffee is gone, buy enough for everyone with our Fire Department Pricing now!

Firefighters aren’t in it for the recognition. But a select few become well known and universally respected — in firefighter circles and beyond. Warren Forsyth is one of those few. He’s a third generation New York City firefighter, who passed the tradition on to a fourth generation. He served the city for 20 years, the majority of which he spent with the prestigious Rescue Company 1 in Midtown Manhattan. Along the way, he earned 13 citations for bravery in the line of duty.

The city also plans to demote more than 400 other firefighters in an attempt to reduce its budget. The team at FDC wants the Houston firefighting community to know that we stand with you.
