This Ain’t No Third Wave Coffee

This Ain’t No Third Wave Coffee

July 12, 2018

Have you ever heard the expression “The Third Wave of Coffee” before?

They say it’s the latest phase in the history of high-quality coffee — the next evolution in fancy, craft java. But you know what, that’s hipster stuff. That’s not what we do at Fire Dept. Coffee.

Let us give you a quick crash-course on the three waves of coffee, and then we’ll tell you why we’re better than that, why you’re better than that, and why we are so grateful to have you on our side.

The First Wave

This is where it began: coffee for mass consumption.

During the First Wave, coffee was designed to be easily accessible. Some people point to the early- to mid-1900s, while others will say it dates back to the 1800s. No matter the time frame, this is when it became relatively easy to find coffee in stores and restaurants, and people could also brew it in their homes.

The First Wave gave rise to coffee brands you typically see in a can in grocery stores. So, there’s that.

The Second Wave

The latter half of the 20th century ushered in the next wave.

Suddenly, coffee wasn’t just coffee anymore. Now, we had espressos and lattes and frappuccinos. Ordering a cup got a lot more complex. Coffee shops large and small began to dot the landscape.

You can thank the Second Wave for Seattle-based coffee.

The Third Wave

Then came the Third Wave.

It started out with a greater focus on the quality of coffee. Companies gave more attention to finding the perfect coffee bean to create the very best flavor.

Then things got weird. Those hipsters took over and turned coffee into a status symbol — something to show off to make themselves feel as though they were part of the high-class society and better than the next person.

It’s not our thing.

A Wave of Our Own

At Fire Dept. Coffee, we roast high-quality coffee with a mission, not for a status symbol.

First and foremost, we’re here to bring people together.

We roast easy-drinking coffee for hardworking people. We do it to celebrate each and every one of you — not just firefighters, but also men and women everywhere who work long hours to get the job done.

We do it to help you stay alert and ready and to make your days a little better.

It’s important to us to help take care of those people when they need it most. That’s why we’ve donated portions of our proceeds to charities whose work we admire.

It’s also why we’re preparing to launch the Fire Dept. Coffee Foundation to help support first responders who are recovering from serious injuries.

We’re honored to do it, and we couldn’t do it without you. So thank you for riding this wave with us!

If you’re interested in being a part of everything that we do at Fire Dept. Coffee, all you have to do is buy some of our high-quality coffee. With every bag of coffee, t-shirt, mug, or other Fire Dept. Coffee product that you buy, a portion of the proceeds go towards helping a good cause. Be a part of something bigger than the Third Wave. T’was the Night Before Christmas (at the Firehouse)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the firehouse Not a creature was stirring, the coffee had run out The mugs were all stacked on the counter with care With nothing to fill them, the cabinets were bare The rookies drove me crazy, then they fell asleep After the captain made dinner, that was unfit to eat With floors to be cleaned and gifts left to wrap This was no time for a firefighter to even take a nap
