Firefighters might not be the first people you associate with coffee roasters, but if you think of our long shifts and odd hours… we bet you can tell where our obsession with coffee came from.
That’s exactly what inspired us to found Fire Dept Coffee. Since this magical hot liquid can make or break our day, we wanted to make it easily accessible to all the other hardworking people out there.
Whether you’ve been with us for a while (we love you!) or have just bumped into our website (why, hello there), we thought it’d be the right time to introduce ourselves properly and tell you why we do what we do.
Coffee is important. We both know that. Especially when you’ve got a tough day ahead or are trying so hard to stay awake in the afternoon—or, in our case, during night shifts.
For hardworking people like you and us, sometimes there just isn’t a lot of time, so we need it to be as easily-accessible and practical as possible.
Still, coffee should be a pleasure as well as a necessity. Something to be enjoyed. The best coffee, basically.
That’s what we decided to create.
Fire Dept Coffee was born in 2016 thanks to Luke Schneider’s idea. A full-time firefighter, paramedic and U.S. Navy veteran, he teamed up with fellow firefighter Jason Patton to develop this concept:
They put together a team of first responders and coffee connoisseurs to ensure the best results and started roasting the perfect blends in Rockford, Illinois.
At Fire Dept Coffee, we’re all committed to our cause, and that’s why we donate 10% of our net proceeds to support injured and ill first responders.
We’re all about crafting the right blends using the highest-quality beans from around the world. As well as putting them through a strict testing and evaluation process, we always make sure that the farms that we use are both environmentally and socially responsible.
As for the roasting process, we only want the best of the best for you. Instead of chucking them all in the roaster, we roast each type of beans separately and in a different way. This results in deeper complexity and heightened nuances, guaranteeing the bold but balanced flavors that we’re known for.
One of the most important things when it comes to coffee is freshness. You could have created the best blend of all times, but… if it was roasted many weeks ago? It’ll still taste stale. Fact.
That’s why all of our coffee is always roasted to order and shipped as soon as possible, usually on the same day.
We want you to start the day your way. From the least acidic light roasts to the darker-than-the-night blends, we’ve got the right coffee for everyone’s taste. We also offer our signature spirit-infused coffee, a non-alcoholic beverage created using our innovative proprietary method.
Most importantly, we know that everyone experiences coffee in different ways. For some of you it’s a ritual that starts by grinding the beans, for some others there’s no time for that, so the right grounds can be proper lifesavers.
Either way, running out of coffee is the worst possible scenario, right?
