When the green flag waved, we were off and running for a big weekend of racing in Texas and Arizona. We came to support our friends in the NASCAR and NHRA circuits, honor Community Heroes, and hand out cups of delicious Fire Dept. Coffee.
On Saturday, Kaz Grala raced his heart out in the No. 26 Fire Dept. Coffee Toyota aka Engine 26 (the name nominated by the fans) during the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Pit Boss 250 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. One of the relatively few road courses in the NASCAR circuit, the Pit Boss 250 delivered a fun, exciting race all the way to the finish line.
The 3.41-mile track delivers 20 total turns and features a blend of fast sections and tight, technical corners. It’s always an entertaining race, and this weekend was no different.
Grala finished in the 18th position after a tire went flat on the last lap.
As the official coffee of the National Hot Rod Association, you know we couldn’t miss this one, especially since this was the last Arizona Nationals that will be held at this historic track.
For us, the big winner of the day was Fire Captain/Paramedic Allen Blaine, our NHRA and Fire Dept. Coffee Community Hero. Before the race this weekend, the Fire Dept. Coffee team visited Capt. Blaine’s station to spend time with him and his Chandler Fire Dept. crew.
We donated coffee for the firefighters and spent some time visiting and getting to know Capt. Blaine. He’s well-known in the community, which made him the perfect choice for this recognition.
A Marine Corps veteran, a husband, and a father of four, he’s also been a member of the Chandler Fire Dept. for more than 2 decades. He’s been a SWAT medic, a union trustee, a member of the Honor Guard, and a teacher at the state fire school.
Captain Blaine strives to build camaraderie in the ranks, leads by example, and treats his patients with dignity and compassion. His dedication and contribution to the Chandler Fire Department and the city of Chandler are second to none.
His fellow firefighters are quick to point out that he does so with a smile and a good sense of humor as well.
Congratulations to Capt. Blaine, our Community Hero of the Week. It was our honor to meet you, to recognize you, and to thank you for all that you do!
