A lot of companies talk about their core values. We go further than that. At Fire Dept. Coffee, we live and work by our family values. We feel strongly about it because we think it’s at the root of our success.
In some ways, living up to our values comes naturally. And in others, we have to work very hard for it.
Isn’t that how it is with families?
In the business world, the “core values” you come across can often be hollow jargon wrapped up and decorated to look like inspiration with things like “innovation” and “leadership” and “ambition.”
For us, the more time we spent chasing this dream of roasting the best coffee around, the more we realized that our real values were more personal.
We came upon this realization — and these family values — quite naturally. Day after day, year after year, usually over a cup of coffee or six. Here are the values that matter most to Fire Dept. Coffee:
Family can mean a lot of things.
For us, we have our family at home. We have our family at the fire station. Our team at our roastery and shipping center? They’re family, too.
In each case, we spend so much time together that we truly mean it when we say we consider them all family. That’s not just some line that we throw out there.
It’s real life.
We love them all. Sure, they can drive us crazy, but you know how it is with family.
We’re all united by the experiences we share together — the struggles, the triumphs and all the laughs.
Our situation is not unique. That’s the best part. Through Fire Dept. Coffee, we’ve gotten to know all kinds of families, whether they’re bonded by blood or friendship or professional passions.
It’s always an honor when those families choose Fire Dept. Coffee as the drink they share together. It’s like we’re there with them.
Whether you work an 8-hour shift or a 24-hour shift, you’re going to get to know the people you work with really well. You know their personalities and all their little quirks.
You learn that one person needs more coffee than others to be fully functional in the morning. Someone else is maybe a little too much of a morning person.
If you really like someone, you know their favorite coffee and how they take it.
That’s the type of bonding we’re here for.
Coffee is the fuel our family needs to get through the day and to keep us focused when the stakes are high.
Then it’s the drink we pour when we’re coming together at the end of the shift to talk about everything that just happened and everything that’s coming up soon.
Sometimes this takes multiple cups. We’re good with that.
We know that sometimes a good cup of coffee is enjoyed alone, in peaceful silence.
Those moments are rare and precious.
More often than not, coffee is a shared experience. Those moments are precious, too.
We love nothing more than seeing families — home families, work families, any families — enjoying Fire Dept. Coffee together. In fact, we make a variety of roasts because we want to make sure that every member of the family can find a coffee they love.
Our goal has always been to create something that can bring people together, that can make your days a little better and give you something to bond over.
So from our family to yours … Cheers!
