I originally bought the Firefighter Fenton sticker for myself. That was selfish. I now understand this sticker was meant for my mustache.
As a firefighter with a mustache that has spent years quietly serving the public from its assigned position beneath my nose, Firefighter Fenton represents everything it hopes to become: distinguished, disciplined, magnificently groomed, and apparently capable of achieving command presence without the unnecessary involvement of an entire face.
Every morning before shift, I look at Fenton and feel inspired. Then my mustache looks at Fenton and feels challenged.
Since purchasing this sticker, there has been a noticeable change. My mustache stands a little taller. It takes training more seriously. It has begun asking about promotional opportunities. Last week I caught it studying for Fire Officer II. I have repeatedly explained that I hold the certifications and it is facial hair, but ambition cannot be contained by arbitrary organizational boundaries.
Frankly, I'm becoming concerned it may promote before I do.
The sticker itself looks great, sticks well, and provides a daily reminder that neither a firefighter nor his mustache should ever stop pursuing excellence.
5/5. Inspirational to firefighters. Transformational to mustaches.
I bought the sticker.
The mustache found a role model.
