Coffee of the Month Club: Tanzania Peaberry Coffee

August 03, 2020

Introducing Tanzania Peaberry Coffee, the exclusive coffee for August 2020 to Coffee of the Month Club members.

You’re in for a treat with this rare coffee that originates from a gorgeous farm, Lyamungo, in the shadows of Mount Kilimanjaro. Formally known as Tanzania Peaberry Lyamungo APK Estate, this roast is made from the exceptional peaberry coffee bean. These small, round beans with a cleft in the middle are sorted and separated by hand on Lyamungo.

The beans are so sought after because they deliver a lively cup of coffee with a full body and a distinguished aroma. You’ll find a medium acidity, a buttery body and a delicate sweetness. It’s made from varietals including Bourbon, Kents and N39. The beans are fully washed and dried on raised beds at 1,300 meters.

What is Peaberry Coffee?

It starts with the coffee cherry. Most coffee cherries produce two seeds. These seeds are compressed together within the cherry, giving them a flat side. Because of a genetic mutation where there are not two seeds within the cherry, but just one. This results in the coffee “bean” having no flat sides and resembles a pea.

As you enjoy each sip, you’ll notice distinct flavors of caramel, grapefruit and lime. Enjoy it slowly because this is a rare experience — and one worth savoring.
